Mini Musical Series: My favourite Bollywood songs from the 1990’s

It has taken me quite sometime to sit down and think about how I want to convey my next set of favourite Bollywood songs from the 1990’s purely because there literally are SO many! I have decided to break down the task of choosing the songs, by selecting my top 5 favourite ones from the decade, as well as my top 5 favourite soundtracks from the decade, so that I am covering a few more favourites!

The 1990’s really was a magical time for Bollywood. With films like Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (the longest running film of ALL time), and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai releasing towards the end of the decade, at the beginning we saw films like Vijaypath, Deewana, Aashiqui, Saajan and so many more memorable titles.

I am truly aware that my list of favourites may “offend” some other majorly filmi music buffs, but hey, just remember that I am sharing them on my own platform, haha! You can of course, share your favourites in the comments below. So before I get completely overwhelmed with nostalgia, let’s take a look at my top 5 favourite Bollywood songs from the 1990’s.

Phew, that was a tough choice to make but I guarantee you that whenever these songs play on any Hindi music channel (I love Sony Mix!) you can be sure that the volume goes sky high. So for my favourite soundtracks, I decided to include ones whose songs I hadn’t included in the above list just to mix it up a bit. Here they are:

1) Barsaat (I genuinely love each and every song on this soundtrack!)
2) Raja
3) Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge
4) Dil Toh Pagal Hai
5) Aur Pyar Ho Gaya

A rather different choice, from the first list right? Well that’s just how my heart follows and loves to hear the highly melodious songs. My favourite composers of the 1990’s were Nadeem-Shravan and they truly influenced the kind of Bollywood music that I enjoy listening to.

I hope you all enjoyed my mini musical series where I shared my top 5 favourite songs from the Bollywood retro era! There are of course, many one other songs too that have made my favourites list such as item songs (Chamma Chamma from China Gate!) let me know if you’d like to see a follow up to this series.
