Favourite Golden Oldie song: Don’t Tell Me by Madonna

For the month of January, I have chosen a song which has been another re-discovery of mine, from December last year, and it is Madonna’s Don’tTell Me which is from her album Music.

There is so much to love about this song, starting from its catchy country style guitar rift, to M’s attitude, to the music video featuring the cowboys. The lyrics of Don’t Tell Me essentially tell the story of a woman telling her lover not to ‘control her’ “Don’t tell me to stop Tell the rain not to drop Tell the wind not to blow
‘Cause you said so…” and at a time where the entire world is finally waking up to #MeToo movements etc, it couldn’t be a better time to remember a song like this, and also remember the fact that Madonna has always been at the forefront of supporting and promoting female empowerment.

I love the music video for the simple, yet strong look M gives (while she is shown walking on the treadmill), to the end scene where we see a cowboy who is desperately trying to control a horse, but failing miserably as the horse flings him off right at the end. If that isn’t a great imagery for showing control, then I don’t know what is! Hats off to the Queen of Pop for always saying it like it is.

Hope you all enjoy this month’s favourite golden song. I would love to know if it features in your favourite song list too. Thank you M for the music and the epic reminders that you keep giving us in your songs!
