Favourite Golden Oldie: I’m Your Baby Tonight – Whitney Houston

The majority of my recent favourite golden oldie songs, have actually been re-discoveries. I have either heard them played on the radio, or have stumbled across them on YouTube, and this months favourite is no exception, as it is a Whitney Houston classic I’m Your Baby Tonight.

I have always loved Whitney, and have always been a fan of her epic vocals. Having grown up during the 1990’s, I have been exposed to a lot of her music and even though her cover of Dolly Parton’s I Will Always Love You, dominated the later part of her career, she had a lot of hit songs prior and along the way and I’m Your Baby Tonight is one of them, which featured on the album with the same title, and it actually released during the 90’s.

There are two versions of I’m Your Baby Tonight and I must say that it is the remixed, uptempo version which is my favourite (especially as it has a crazy fast piano interlude), as I feel the song flows a lot better and it naturally suits a faster pace. I don’t think it is possible for anyone to try and match her amazing high standard of vocals in this song, which I read in a YouTube comment, she had recorded in one take!

According to articles referenced on Wikipedia for the song, the accompanying music video showed Whitney giving a tribute to some of her favourite musicians. The song has been written by Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Antonio Reid.
