While many of us have had to sadly pause our normal routines, as the world faces and bravely battles a pandemic, nearly all of our entertainment industries have been affected by the crisis, with some of our favourite musicians suffering the most.
Many concerts, gigs and even world tours have had to be cancelled and re-scheduled, but despite all of this, it hasn’t dampened the spirits of our favourite artists as they have found new ways to keep us all entertained.
Social media maybe considered to be a bane or a boon, but under these new and challenging circumstances of self isolation, it has definitely proved to be the latter. Some of my favourite artists have been either uploading daily or sharing regular clips of them singing and learning their favourite songs, on their chosen social media platform the most common being Instagram.
Two artists that have done this are Jack Savoretti and Alexa Goddard.
Jack has been learning a song a day and has been sharing the results of this on his IGTV. My most favourite of these is his wonderful tribute to the late Bill Withers, a cover of Lean on Me, where Jack has been accompanied by his daughter Connie. As well as these daily uploads, Jack did a few Instagram lives for his Italian fans to support them during a time of crisis. He managed to compose a song with them called Andrà Tutto Bene (translated as all will be fine) and also release the song officially!
Singer Alexa Goddard has been treating us all to her aptly titled Lockdown Sessions at Facebook and Instagram. My favourite of these has been her amazing rendition of Halo by Beyonce. I honestly can’t tell the difference between the original and this stunning rendition. Go Alexa!
Other artists such as Angus Munro have gone a step further by giving us a lovely hour long mini concert via his Instagram story. He confirmed during the concert that he does plan to do these regularly during this time of isolation. Newer female artists Celeste and Freya Ridings have also given similar mini concerts via their Instagram.
My favourite of all has been the daily quarantine session diaries from the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna. In addition to these diaries where she sits at an old fashioned typewriter, I have loved the updates on her children. We also had legendary boyband Backstreet Boys perform their superhit song I Want it That Way from 5 different locations across America, while isolating. It is a real joy to watch!
So if you are struggling to find things to do while in self isolation, check out what your favourite musicians are up to as they keep trying their best to put a smile on our face. As they say music is the true language of the world and it will surely bring us all together through this tough time. Stay home, stay safe, we are all in this together!
