Electro-pop visionary Kylo captivates audiences with her single Closer, the second single teasing her upcoming EP, RETROSPECT. Kylo is a Toronto-based musician making waves in Canada’s Indie scene. In her unique musical approach, she blends bedroom pop melodies with elements of lo-fi curation and soothing production.

The single “Closer” chases an emotionally unavailable partner with the universal desire to attain closeness to those we love. Kylo wrote the lyrics and lent vocals while Matthew Stevens mixed and produced the track, and the brilliant Gabe Gallucci mixed the tune.
“I wrote ‘Closer’ in the beginning stages of seeing someone new and realizing it was more lust than love. The physical connection was insane, but there was an emotional block,” Kylo shared. “Trying to reach someone who is emotionally unavailable while being sucked in by the physical aspects created an emotional dilemma.”
The tune begins with a smooth, establishing synth, easing the listener into KYLO’s universe. Lo-fi percussion (a steady bass drum) jumps into the production line about ten seconds in, along with serene vocals.
“Hold on for so long
Trying to get you closer
You know all the wrong
Ways to get me closer”
Through her candid lyrics, KYLO invites listeners to relate to the downfall of a once-promising relationship. She explains the demise of the unrequited relationship and craves the connection they once had.
“I can feel you retract into past habits
Make you regret all your words
Wait for the compromise
Space grows, then we collide”
“Closer” nails a commonality between relationships and music – intimacy. Luckily, where relationships fail, music saves the day. KYLO turns to songwriting and storytelling skills to find human connections, ultimately discovering her life’s calling.
“I wrote this song while dealing with these feelings to let everything out before I felt like I could actually express them to the person they were about. Sometimes, songwriting is cathartic and therapeutic in that way.”
KYLO’s works have been showcased on Noisey, CBC, and KALTBLUT, and she’s performed at the Mod Club, the Baby G, and the Drake. Her EP Retrospect debuts in late June.
