With a coming of age Truck Festival set under her belt, Megan Wyn is  releasing her coming of age soon to be classic track, You Don’t Get It. John Kennedy will also be premiering the release on Radio X on release day. They say no artist’s journey is the same. And in the case of Megan Wyn that statement could not be more true.

Megan has been playing festivals and shows on the circuit since she was 16. At the ripe age of 18 she has already done the toilet tour more than most musicians ten years her senior, thanks to the kind help of her mum, Nerys.

It is rare that an artist’s first single release comes after sets at The Great Escape, Truck Festival, Y Not and Isle Of Wight Festival. Especially when they completed their debut headline tour earlier in the year. But no story is the same.

An old head on young shoulders, Megan rightly feels that she has reached her starting point. With live experiences already in the bag, it was just a matter of honing her sound and landing on something that was truly representative of herself. It’s also true that moving from her native Anglesey just off the Welsh coast, to her now home of Manchester at the age of 16, would have helped Megan develop not only as a musician but most importantly as a woman.

Megan grew up wanting exactly what she has now, the ability to put pen to paper and have songs fall out of her, to play shows to packed out venues in Manchester, as well as, elsewhere. And most importantly, play the festivals she probably would have attended anyway.

You Don’t Get It, sounds like a cut from the Ayoade classic, Submarine. It is a quintessentially British sounding record full of hope and desperation in equal measure. What makes it different to most records in this area of music though, is the way in which Megan has drawn upon her influences new and old. Her love of Amazon’s blockbuster series, The Six, almost oozes out of your speakers as her PJ Harvey-esque croon delivers ear worm after ear worm. Rare that an artist is effortlessly cool whilst calling upon pop sensibilities relentlessly. Wistful but assured in equal measure, it sounds exactly like a teenager figuring themselves out.

Speaking about the song, Megan said: “I made You Don’t Get It with Alex Quinn at the start of Summer last year. It’s a song about coming to terms with the feelings that come with starting a new chapter in your life. When I was 16, I moved from a very small town on Anglesey to Manchester, which is of course a much bigger city.

With starting such a different chapter in my life, I experienced a lot of overwhelming feelings that I didn’t quite understand or expect to feel, which is where I got the line, You don’t get it cause you never have. This song is me explaining to myself that it’s okay to feel those feelings.

Although I had an overwhelming feeling of homesickness, I knew that this was the right step in order for me to grow as a person. This song is all about that journey.”

You Don’t Get It, was written with and produced by Alex Quinn (The Royston Club, Lottery Winners, Michael Aldag) over the course of an extensive period of writing in Summer 2022.

With another single pencilled for release before the year is out and a handful of festivals and shows to announce for the end of 2023 and early 2024, Megan is putting a line in the sand and stepping directly into the spotlight an artist like herself deserves.
