The last 12 months have been a whirlwind for Sophie Griffiths, from placements on Love Island US & UK and I’m A Celeb, to gaining her Radio One plays (Mollie King, Maia Beth, Gemma Bradley) as well as consistent support from Spotify UK. This year has also seen her play choice sets at Latitude Festival and 110 Above Festival. Now, she returns to remind her loyal fanbase that toxic relationship is never worth it.
Her latest releases, Modern Love, Mother’s Daughter, and Power Cut have already eclipsed 200,000 streams across all platforms with support coming via New Music Friday UK, Easy, Fresh Finds (Pop, UK & IE), Wholesome, and New Pop UK placement on Spotify, whilst also gaining support from Maia Beth, Mollie King and Gemma Bradley on BBC Radio One. She was also asked to co-host BBC Introducing Essex’s International Women’s Day special.
Taking a slightly different tone in this track, Sophie has decided to show her serious side. My Own Fate is an empowering song spreading the message of both hope and promise.
This track truly is the lead single to Sophie’s upcoming EP, it has her personality that runs through everything she does but it features more contemporary production and as such feels like a song that is completely timeless.
An old head on young shoulders, Sophie’s lyrics continue to be centred around subjects that any 21-year-old may be feeling or experiencing, but are written in such a way that any person of any age may find easy to relate to.
As 2023 progresses, it’s clear that the world is truly Sophie’s oyster. She could be the agony aunt to her generation or the artist that older generations have been waiting for.
Speaking about the song Sophie said: “My Own Fate is a song about that light bulb moment in a toxic relationship when you realise you deserve better. I wanted to write an empowering tune that me and my friends could listen to when we need to pluck up the courage to leave a situation that is no longer right for us – because it’s bloody hard!”
Sophie’s sophomore EP, aptly titled Note To Self, will land late October and given the strong slew of releases this year it promises to be a fittingly big end to her 2023. She will be launching the EP at a special London show at Paper Dress Vintage on the 1st November.
Having already played shows with LYRA, Katie Kittermaster and CloseUp Festival, tracks featuring on Love Island US & UK and many many more accolades, My Own Fate and her EP Note To Self set this special artist up for a very special 2024.
