Will the Brit Awards learn from the Grammys?

It’s award season, and along with the Baftas and Oscars, we also have the glitz and glamour of the music award ceremonies to look forward to namely the Grammy’s and the BRiTs.

Last year, the Brit Awards rightfully came under fire for not nominating a single female artist in the artist of the year category even though they had so many wonderful female artists to choose from. Fast forward to this year and the Grammy’s has outdone itself, by not only giving deserving awards to Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus, but also having an all female line up of performers throughout the evening, which also included legendary Joni Mitchell.

Now I’m not saying that the Brits should do exactly the same (although, why not?), but I really do hope they paid attention to Harry Styles speech last year as he dedicated his award to a host of female artists who should have been nominated in the same category as he was. If Harry had no problem with that, then who did?

It goes without saying (unfortunately), that us women struggle in almost every aspect of life, to be taken seriously. Talented? You’ll face male misogyny everywhere in the music industry. Searching for a better job? You’ll always earn less than your male colleagues etc. So it would be really nice to see that we no longer have to fight to be included in a music award category, without any good reason.
