How much new music do you actually listen to?

As a creator of a music blog that supports upcoming indie artists, this is a question that I frequently ask myself. I know I’m guilty of finding my favourite artists and listening to their music all the time, but thanks to my blog, I’m open to listening to artists from a wide range of genres, and I personally love having an eclectic taste in music.

We are, more often than not, creatures of habit and listening to music that we know, often brings a sense of comfort. For example, since 2023 I have thoroughly enjoyed re-watching old episodes of Top of the Pops from 1997 onwards (we have finally reached 1999!) I just love seeing the iconic older performances of my favourite artists.

And while nostalgia is a good thing, it is also possible to embrace the new and listen to the current music scene, regardless of your age or generation, as there will always be something for everyone.

As mentioned in my previous blog post, I shared the new albums I’m looking forward to listening to this year, one of which was released 6th March, Kiss All The Time, Disco Occasionally by Harry Styles and what a treat to the ears this album is! I highly recommend taking the time out to listen to it if you haven’t already.

From the indie music scene, I have recently shared new music news by artist Connor Adams at my blog, and I am hoping to share more new music by indie artists in the coming months. The other amazing thing about listening to new popular music, is that it helps you to stay relevant. (UK TV presenter Davina McCall explains this brilliantly, in her 2023 book) Why do I need to stay relevant you might ask? Well, if there is a conversation about the latest music in the charts, happening around you, then if you are aware of the artists you will be able to join in! It is also a wonderful feeling to share music with another human being who may be discovering that particular song for the very first time.

We now live in a world that is becoming more and more dominated by technology and I think it’s time we remember and highlight the things we enjoyed before all of social media and AI came into our lives. So, if you have been neglecting listening to music lately, then now is the time to try it again, maybe just even switch on the radio, see which song enlightens you, and begin your search for new music!
