Firestone is once again giving unsigned music acts a chance to shine in front of huge new audiences – including a top UK festival slot – courtesy of its Road to the Main Stage competition which is back for another year.

The iconic tyre brand will be putting musicians on a journey quite unlike any other, with the winning act not only earning the right to play on the biggest stage of their lives, but also winning a VW Transporter van for a year, in-store credit at a Professional Music Technology store, brand new gear from Orange Amplification and a contribution towards the creation of an EP.

The Engine Room International Sound Art Competition 2019

CALLING ALL SOUND ARTISTS: THE ENGINE ROOM INTERNATIONAL SOUND ART COMPETITION 2019

The Engine Room is pleased to announce its third international sound art competition for emerging sound artists. This year’s competition and events are organised in collaboration with IKLECTIK to celebrate their 5th anniversary.

The competition invites the submission of new sound art – including audio and audio-visual pieces, interactive works and performances, installations, sound sculptures and graphic scores – by 15 September 2019.

Submitted entries will be judged by a panel of experts including award winning composers and sound artists Robin Rimbaud (Scanner), Kate Carr, and Eduard Solaz (Iklectik Art Lab).

Birmingham Jazz musicians entertain stars of The Peaky Blinders

On 18 July Town Hall Birmingham hosted the exclusive launch of the hotly anticipated fifth series of BAFTA-award-winning Peaky Blinders, the epic gangster series set in 1920s’ Birmingham.

Home to many a historical drama in its near-200-year history, Town Hall Birmingham greeted the series’ stars and fans with a spectacular red carpet event organised by BBC Birmingham and BBC One, and music provided by Jazzlines musicians playing jazz repetorie from the 1920s onwards.

Magnetic Opera Festival 2019

A historical mine is the natural theatre for the opera and ballet event that will enchant Elba Island from 7 to 22 July.

The Ginevro mine, known since the ancient Etruscans for its magnetite deposit and abandoned in the early ’80s, is now open to the public for gallery visits.

Also, in summer, it becomes the unusual, fascinating backdrop for the rich performance calendar of the Magnetic Opera Festival.

Action Fraud warning as victims lose average of £365 to ticket fraud

Between 1 April 2018 and 30 April 2019, Action Fraud received 4,755 reports of ticket fraud. The total reported losses to victims was £1,654,888: an average of £365 per victim. With lots of music concerts and sporting events taking place in summer, it is an opportunity for fraudsters to take advantage of unsuspecting fans. New awareness campaign launched with Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (STAR) to encourage informed purchases from authorised sellers.

Action Fraud is partnering with the Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (STAR) to urge people to avoid fraud by taking more care when buying tickets for live events.

Fraudsters will pose as a website or agent for a music concert or festival, a sporting contest, or a live comedian or performer, meaning victims will purchase tickets that either don’t arrive or turn out to be fake. So, consumers should always check the contact details of the site they’re buying the tickets from.
