Douglas Macgregor – Songs of Loss & Healing

MacGregor lost his mother to cancer when he was just seven and, with that, a whole way of life. It wasn’t until twenty-five years later that the supressed grief of this world over-turning experience brought an emotional collapse that submerged him for almost two years. Throughout this time, music was the guide and lifeline, the method of making sense of the unfathomable.

Bristol Plays Music launches Virtual Academy for music tuition

Bristol Plays Music, the city’s award-winning music hub, has responded to the closure of schools and need for lockdown learning by creating a Virtual Academy, providing existing and new music students with individual music lessons.

The new Virtual Academy is an online music lesson programme, covering most instruments for children and young people currently learning at all levels, aged 7-18.

Bringing Bristol Plays Music tutors to homes via video calls, lessons will be 20 minutes long for primary aged children or 30 minutes long for secondary aged children, delivered individually online.

Teen trio Polarized Eyes release blazing follow up to critically acclaimed debut single

The world is burning, and teen trio Polarized Eyes have something to say about it. Blazing with punk energy, their new single Inferno is set for release on all digital music platforms on 29th April 2020. The track was recorded at Alchemy Studio, London and produced by Kenny Jones, whose production chops span from Bauhaus and The Smiths to Billy Bragg and The Jim Jones Revue.

Inferno fires a warning shot at complacent governments and apathetic corporations who continue with business as usual – counting their money while the clock ticks away for the planet. An urgent bassline and driving beats are topped by searing guitar riffs and powerful vocals, featuring smart lyrics that belie the band’s youth.

Gig in the Goil Showcase Stage Announced

Award-nominated boutique festival Gig in the Goil has announced their Showcase Stage for their fifth birthday, with Luke La Volpe, Mark Sharp and the Bicycle Thieves and Vanives leading the way.

The indoor event – which returns to the stunning lochside village of Lochgoilhead from 1st – 3rd May, is well known for its promotion of upcoming artists from across Scotland, with the likes of Lewis Capaldi, Gerry Cinnamon, The Snuts & Be Charlotte gracing their stage over recent years, and this year’s milestone event promises to be even more special.

“We are delighted to secure such a strong line-up” said Event Manager Ross Coutts. “Luke & Mark are tipped for huge things at the moment with sell-out shows and festival appearances across Scotland, so we’re delighted to welcome them back to GITG as headliners, while Vanives are one of the most exciting upcoming acts in the country and we can’t wait for them to make their Lochgoilhead debut”.
