Get to Know: indie band FangSlinger

I’m happy to share my next interview which is with emerging indie band FangSlinger! FangSlinger are a unique band with a unique concept attached to their music (which is explained in the interview).

FangSlinger

Fresh from the release of their album Welcome to the Lost Souls Saloon, I had a good catch up with front man Connor (who is answering the questions in character as a 200 year old outlaw!) Intrigued? Continue reading to learn more about the band.

Please share how your musical journey began.

We’ve been hunting souls for over a century and, along the way, we were around through every music era of the 20th century, and we saw how souls flocked to these musicians. So, fairly recently, we figured we’d put our musical skills to the test, form a hard rockin’ band and tell our stories of the haunted Old West that way!

For my readers who may be new to FangSlinger, please share the process behind creating the band, and explain the overall concept.

Well, we’re three undead outlaws from the Wild West who have a debt of 100,000 souls to the devil. Sounds kinda far fetched but we are somewhere between what y’all would call ‘vampires’ and ‘demons’. We drink blood, play rock n’ roll and corrupt souls in equal measure… but the sunlight don’t scare us. Each song tells a different story from our history and every venue we enter becomes ‘The Lost Souls Saloon’ for one night!

You have recently released your concept album Welcome to the Lost Souls Saloon. I think this is a very unique idea and something that I haven’t seen in independent music for a very long time. Can you share the story behind it?

It tells our tale! The story of a man who, during the Gold Rush of California, made a fortune, lost it gambling and then sold his soul to an ancient evil. He then recruited BloodRose and HangMan to join his hunt to pay the debt. There are a lot of twists and turns and this is only part 1 of the epic tale.

Vampires, Cowboys, Witchcraft…. what more could you want in a rock album?

If you had to pick one, what is your favourite track from the album?

Definitely ‘Children of Sorrow’. It’s the last song on the record and it’s a big, bombastic ballad with strings, a soprano guest vocal on the intro, our best vocals and HangMan’s finest guitar solo! It harkens back to songs like November Rain and Hotel California while giving some Spaghetti Western soundtrack vibes a gothic makeover!

After listening to the album, I can totally see the songs being featured in fantasy series (Vampire Diaries, The Originals, Legacies etc.) would you be open to this idea?

Oh 100%! I’d actually love a series about the Fangslinger saga! Maybe that could be a long-term goal. But absolutely. TV, Movies, Videogames. It all inspires the music we make so it would be incredible for that to come full circle with a song in a series.

Who are FangSlinger’s favourite artists?

Far too many to list but the key ones you’ll hear in every song are Guns N’ Roses, Avenged Sevenfold, Johnny Cash, Dorothy and Fleetwood Mac.

Any teasers on your forthcoming projects?

We have so much on the way. Album 2 is already being written, our tour is underway as we speak, we’re working on a comic book series, music videos and perhaps even a short film! It’s a truly exciting time in the Lost Souls Frontier!

Thank you so much for your time Connor! I look forward to sharing forthcoming news from the FangSlinger universe! You can listen to FangSlinger across all popular music platforms.
