Following their award-winning album Long Time Honey, indie pop band Fox and Bones returnswith Are We Still Having Fun? their much-anticipated fifth record, which drops September 18, 2026. The new album marks an expansive step forward for the band, both lyrically and sonically, as they confront life after their romantic breakup, the rise of AI, late-stage capitalism, burnout, and depression, all while searching for moments of hope in an increasingly uncertain world.
Their unique story forms the emotional backbone of the new album. Fox and Bones (Sarah Vitort and Scott Gilmore) began as both a musical duo and romantic couple in 2016. After ending their relationship in 2022, they continued creating and touring together, along with longtime bassist Jared May, who inspires the duo to go deeper into their connection with each other and with the music.
For the first time, Fox and Bones blends indie pop with their signature Americana and folk-rock roots, creating a sound that mirrors the complexity of the themes they explore in the new project.
The focus track, White Flag, is an energetic pop song Sarah, who came out as bisexual after the split, wrote about her first fight with her first girlfriend. Another standout, A Different Kind of Love, reflects on Sarah and Scott’s evolving relationship, and how, even after ending their romance, they’ve built a new form of love that continues to sustain their partnership and their art.

Are We Still Having Fun? was created in collaboration with multi-platinum selling songwriter, artist and producer Greg Holden and is primed to be Fox and Bones’ best record yet. The album will be available on all streaming platforms September 18, 2026.

At least, that’s what the latest chapter of Portland, Oregon-based indie pop outfit Fox and Bones seems to suggest, as their best work to date arrives following their split as a romantic duo. Their sound has also been elevated by the addition of internationally acclaimed songwriter Greg Holden, who joined the project as producer, shaping both their award-winning 2024 album Long Time Honey and fifth studio record Are We Still Having Fun? which is primed to be Fox and Bones’ strongest release yet.
And after 200,000 miles on the road and a decade together, it better be. Fox and Bones has toured tirelessly throughout their career, sharing stages with the likes of Rayland Baxter, The Dead South, ZZ Ward, Fantastic Cat, ALO and Glitterfox, among others. Their accolades include Best Folk/Americana Album of 2024 by the PNW Music Awards, first place at the 2023 Tucson Folk Festival songwriting contest, and second place in the International Acoustic Music Awards.
When they’re not on the road or in the studio, they run Portland’s Folk Festival which they founded in 2018. Hosted annually at the iconic Crystal Ballroom, the festival is a celebration of folk and roots music in their hometown of Portland, Oregon.
