This Father’s Day (June 21), Krisita Porter Burket of David & Daughter Music Publishing and PR is sharing a special release: Shot Out’a the Saddle Again, a song written by her late father that she brought back to life. Krisita’s dad, David L. Porter, was tragically killed in a car accident in 1993 when his only child was nine.

At the time, he had BMI publishing agreements for 13 of his songs and was on the cusp of seeing his songwriting dreams become a reality. To carry that dream forward on her dad’s behalf, Krisita founded David & Daughter to house and share David’s previously unpublished catalog.
As an initial step, Krisita had four demos made of David’s songs during a session at Welcome to 1979 Studio in Nashville. Artist and producer Brandon Lane Moore oversaw the project, singing vocals, playing guitar, and mixing the tracks. Grammy winner Zach Top’s touring pedal steel player, Ryan “Stiggy” Stigmon, brought his steel expertise to the session, helping ensure the track stayed true to the neo-traditional sound David loved. Also especially meaningful was the participation of professional bass player Jared May, Krisita’s cousin and David’s nephew.
Shot Out’a the Saddle Again is a relatable and timeless track about a night out on the town, believing a connection might lead somewhere after the bar closes, only to have a so-called friend ruin those plans at the last minute. The song sits comfortably alongside the music of Zach Top, Cody Johnson, and Luke Combs, even lending itself well as a natural precursor to Luke’s hit ‘Back in the Saddle.’
Krisita is on a personal mission to have one of her dad’s songs cut by a well-known artist by the time she turns 43 next year, the age her dad was when he passed. This first release on Father’s Day marks a pivotal step toward achieving that dream.
Krisita said the following about the project: “It has been so special for me to have this opportunity to help my dad’s dream live on so many years after his tragic death. It’s my hope that an artist will hear his song and want to record it, making it their own and helping me make my dad’s dreams come true. I couldn’t think of a better and more significant time to release this first demo than Father’s Day.”
Shot Out’a the Saddle Again will be available on Spotify June 21, 2026.
