Town Hall and Symphony Hall release brand new track from grime MC Dapz on the map

A 2-minute and 20 second track from Grime MC Dapz on the Map has been released today by the music charity responsible for Town Hall and Symphony Hall today (Thu 17 December)
The song, ‘Stay Safe’, scores a video showcasing the digital broadcasts from Town Hall and Symphony Hall that have now amassed over a quarter of a million views since they began in April

Birmingham born, multi-talented artist, Dapz On The Map has written a brand-new track for the music charity responsible for Town Hall and Symphony Hall titled “Stay Safe”. The Grime MC’s brand-new song scores a video showcasing the digital broadcasts which have been shared from the iconic Birmingham venues during the pandemic.

As concerts are cancelled and postponed to 2021 as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, Town Hall Symphony Hall has continued to bring live music to the people of Birmingham and beyond. Digital broadcasts from Town Hall and Symphony Hall have amassed over a quarter of a million views since they began in April.

Blackout: The new single from teen punks Polarized Eyes blasts racism and corruption

Following a prolific bout of writing over lockdown while the schools were closed and they dodged their GCSEs, Polarized Eyes are releasing Blackout on 19th December 2020. The new single is a call to action against racism and corruption and was written on Blackout Tuesday inspired by fury and frustration after the murder of George Floyd by US police officers.

Blackout is driven by an urgent bassline, drums and distorted guitars. These are topped by exceptional vocals – an initial beguiling tone drawing the listener in before a fierce wail at 00:46 sets the powerful pace for the remainder of the track. This is the first of four new tracks written and recorded at London’s Alchemy Studios and produced by Kenny Jones, whose production chops span from Bauhaus and The Smiths to Billy Bragg and The Jim Jones Revue.

Polarized Eyes have a rapidly growing following amongst supporters of new, exciting music and fans alike, and were set to play London’s Camden Assembly before the second lockdown scuppered plans. The band can’t wait to be able to gig again, but in the meantime, they’re honing their craft and continuing to write edgy, powerful songs that capture the zeitgeist of Gen Z.

Get to Know: Actor and Singer Martin Dickinson

On Wednesday this week I shared a press release about a charity single You Raise Me Up which has been produced by west end musicals actor and singer Martin Dickinson, for Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. I am now delighted to share an exclusive interview with Martin, here at Jem Girl at the Piano. We chatted about his single, why he chose to produce it for charity and so much more!

Please share the inspiration/concept behind your single You Raise Me Up (If You Only Have Today)?

Back in July I was sent a video, which was a Mamma Mia medley by a local community choir, (as I had been a part of the show (Mamma Mia) recently), at the end of the medley was an appeal by Shooting Star Children’s Hospices, who I knew of already. It really struck a chord with me, thinking of how everyone was being encouraged to stay at home and do nothing. I knew that a lot of charities were struggling. So I decided to help regardless of how you measure your life, whether in minutes, or days weeks or years – how do you still make the most of that? So I decided to do something to help out by putting together the project, ‘If You Only Have Today’

If this is your first charity single, how was the process of bringing it all together during these difficult times?

I did release an album back in 2012, but the logistics of this were much more complicated. It came down to scheduling, reducing the choir size to 5, finding a Studio who was confident in being Covid secure. Lots of messaging/zoom calling etc…and bucket fulls of sanitizer…But we got there!

Launch of charity single to help hospice for children featuring Martin Dickinson

X-Factor & Loose Women’s Brenda Edwards helps actor Martin Dickinson release a cover of You Raised Me Up made famous by Josh Groban as a charity single for Children’s hospice.

In a time where we are being encouraged to place our lives on hold, for some that is not possible.Children give hope for the future. We have a generation to inspire, to educate to move. Whether your time is measured in minutes, days, weeks or years, especially if you are a child there is adventure to be had and memories to make. So many lives can be cut short and those lives need our help to fill them as full as they can be with love, magic, inspiration and make great memories for all of those families and friends to cherish forever.

Martin Dickinson has sung with Meatloaf, Brian May, Kerry Ellis and Marti Pellow and Brenda Edwards to name a few. He has performed all over the world in the hit show Mamma Mia (until lockdown 1.0) and has appeared in many other shows including Queens Hit – We Will Rock You, he has appeared on TV and his first film engagement was in the Gwyneth Paltrow and Aaron Eckhart movie Possession in 2001.
