“Positively classic in its teenage heartbreak delivery, the vocal range on show from Sophie makes it easy to see how she’s already gained early comparisons to Maisie Peters & GRIFF” – When The Horn Blows
“Boasting a timeless sound interspersed with cutting edge, modern sensibilities and a plethora of charisma and personality” – Clout Magazine
After hitting the Shazam Charts when Love Island kindly placed a song of her’s in the final, Sophie Griffiths comes straight back down to earth with new anxiety ridden single, ‘Monster’ out 09/09/22.
Sitting at #40 in the UK Shazam Chart is no mean feat, especially for an independent pop artist. But, Sophie has had nods from When The Horn Blows, Clout Magazine, YouTube Music and Soundcloud in 2022.
Following on from her previous single, ‘Evergreen’, Sophie’s new cut ‘Monster’ has all the hallmarks of a teenage pop classic befitting of an icon in the making.
Opening line: “I didn’t get much sleep last night, the bitch is back again”, sums up a feeling we all know too well. As all great pop songs are, Monster is instantly relatable whilst being a joy to listen to.
Though dark in its lyrical themes, Monster is both upbeat and passes the old grey whistle test too.
Speaking about the song Sophie said: “This track is basically about telling that unkind voice in your head to back off. I’ve suffered from anxiety from around the age of 11, and I’ve always called it the ‘monster in my head’. I co-wrote ‘Monster’ with James Smith and we thought it would be cool to personalise the anxiety and humanise it. It made me realise I would never allow someone else to treat and put me down like that, so why do I allow the monster in my head to.”
It is rare that you get to witness a young artist develop their sound in public, but Sophie has been doing just that, and this new single follows a long line of tracks that feel like she is getting nearer and nearer to her full potential.
It is not going unnoticed either, with previous singles from this year being featured on BBC Introducing Essex as their ‘Weekly Vibe’, whilst Radio Essex have added her to their C-List. Whilst both Amazing Radio’s Shell Zenner & Charlie Ashcroft have been supporting consistently.
She’s also received nods from legendary Sirius XM presenter, Larry Flick, on his new Vero Social show.
Videos that Sophie has posted to Instagram have reached millions of views whilst her Tik Tok has gained a 370,000 strong following.
To celebrate her last single, Sophie played her debut headline show in London which sold out in a matter of hours, whilst at Great Escape she played two packed out sets, one of which was broadcasted live on Scruff of The Neck’s Twitch stream.
Sophie returns to London on the 23rd September 2022 to headline The Grace, guest list is available upon request.
