Sophie Griffiths releases new single Modern Love

Even after soundtracking the most romantic moment of Love Island 2022, Sophie Griffiths is fed up with dating, specifically online dating, in the 21st Century and her new cut, Modern Love, is all about that.

Ending 2022 on a high, Sophie had her cover of, It Must Be Love, placed on Love Island and I’m A Celebrity, whilst having the closing track from her debut EP, Let It Go, placed on Spotify’s New Music Friday UK.

Looking to start 2023 in a similar vein of form, Sophie returns with her most self-aware, and self-referential release to date. Whilst being known for her more emotive and personal releases, Modern Love is a fun take on something everyone with a phone has experienced.

Across all her platforms Sophie has been known for her tongue-in-cheek takes on classic songs employing a quintessentially British humour and it feels as though Modern Love, written with Mikey Gormley (Emie Nathan, Fleur East, Nina Nesbitt), reflects that.

Sophie’s opening gambit, “So many dead conversations, with strangers online” tells a tale as old as 2020 of situationships and failed talking stages straight from the off but told in a way almost similar to Cause I Got High by AfroMan. There’s something so special in the delivery that just makes you laugh. Speaking about the song Sophie said: “I wrote Modern Love with my writing pal Mikey Gormley about how tragic modern dating is. I’ve always felt like I was born in the wrong era; I love old school music, fashion, AND all I want is to meet someone in real life and have that proper stars aligning moment, like both my grandparents and parents had. The only problem is, I feel like dating apps are the only way to meet people romantically now and I’m so over it :(”

Unsurprisingly, videos of the track online pre-release have garnered over 250K views with thousands of Sophie’s followers asking for it to be released. 2023 promises to be Sophie’s break-out year, all her achievements in 2022 plus a handful of songs to be released across the year alongside live shows supporting Katie Kittermaster and appearing at Close Up Festival (Phoebe Green, Freya Beer), with more shows and festivals yet to be announced means 2023 will make for a busy year if nothing else.

After her song was played on Love Island, her song It Must Be Love was #40 in the UK Shazam Chart. The song also featured on I’m A Celebrity during the letters from home scene. Elsewhere, Sophie had nods from Spotify UK, Tidal, YouTube Music, When The Horn Blows, Clout Magazine, and Soundcloud in 2022.

Sophie also featured heavily across BBC Introducing Essex as their ‘Weekly Vibe’, whilst Radio Essex added her to their C-List. Whilst both Amazing Radio’s Shell Zenner & Charlie Ashcroft have been supporting consistently. She’s also received support from legendary Sirius XM presenter, Larry Flick, on his new Vero Social show.
