Country singer-songwriter Chandler Marie released her latest single Supposed To Be Easy on 10th July. I had the pleasure of catching up with Chandler who shared her thoughts behind the single and how it all came together.
Hi Chandler Marie, welcome to Jem Girl at the Piano. Can you share the story behind the Supposed to be Easy?
I co-wrote this song with my brother-in-law and lead guitarist Jonathan McLendon. We hadn’t written together in a while, so I was giving him a hard time. He jumped up, grabbed a guitar, and we headed to the garage and had no clue what to write about. Jonathan began playing a melody and then words started flowing out of both of our mouths. We wrote this entire song in 30 minutes. Some songs are easier to write than others, and that is what is so fun and unique about songwriting.
While the song sounds uplifting, I know that it is based on a difficult subject. What inspired you to choose this kind of topic?
This topic came about in the middle of chasing my music career while also being in a relationship. Fortunately, I am still in a healthy relationship, but there are times when we have to be apart while chasing our own dreams but pushing each other to chase those dreams. Jonathan and I wrote from a standpoint of, “What if the person you love just lets you go all together?” I am very proud of this song. It represents a real-life scenario that real people go through.
What kind of impact do you want this song to have on your fanbase?
I want my fans to understand that a chasing dream is hard, but when you have the right people in your life, it will make chasing that dream so much more rewarding.
How does this single compare to your previous music?
This single gives a more vulnerable vibe, while in the past, I have released more edgy lyrics and melodies.
While writing Supposed to be Easy, did you face any challenges in completing the track?
The only challenge when writing this track was getting Jonathan in the writing room. He now has three little children and they are the sweetest kiddos but they do take a lot of his time! But thankfully everything worked out and we wrote a killer song.
Will there be a music video for this new single?
We haven’t made up our mind about a music video. Some social visuals will be posted, but a full music video is still being discussed, so follow me on socials for updates!
