Nu London Jazz all dayer for musicians, sonic artists, producers, cross-arts collaborators and audiences

Produced and Presented by The Cockpit /Jazz In The Round

Emergence happens in the round – and with the seats taken out. It offers a time and a space for players, artists and audiences to come together around a standing, dance-friendly all dayer event where we can meet, experiment and make the right mistakes. Come through…

With Jungle Brown, Jack Foster (DJ), Clara Serra López and MA

Jungle Brown – presented by Lyrix Organix

Jungle Brown drop their Tribe Called Quest-esque sound with future rap, adorned with a smooth sax line from UK jazz all-star, Ayo Yung Afrika Pyoneer, and backing vocals from Jungle Brown’s own producer, Tony Bones.

Clara Serra López

Clara Serra López is a vocalist, composer and arranger based in London. Having always loved and been inspired by the communication and improvisation involved in jazz groups, Clara’s project brings together some of the finest musicians in London to develop her musical ideas. Together, they provide a creatively collaborative environment and a vehicle for individual expression. Her music is inspired by grooves from Chicago to Havana, melodies from Erykah Badu to Sílvia Pérez Cruz and sounds from jazz to West-African music, bringing you body-moving rhythm, flowing lines, raw lyrics and improvisation.

From spacey melodies to intense energy, “Ma” is the Japanese symbol ”間” described as “an emptiness full of possibilities, like a promise yet to be fulfilled”. They mix influences from jazz to hip-hop, sprinkled with some drum and bass rhythms and a rock state of mind to create a unique sound.

Spinning: Jack Foster from Do 4 Love

Jack is the curator and creator of Do 4 Love and record seller at Eldica Records. Alongside Do 4 Love Jack also runs Mechanix, a party born out of a mechanics garage in North East London.

The Thing:
As London Jazz makes its way out into the world, The Cockpit wants to continue giving support to artists of all kinds who respond to this exciting new sound, wholly owned by the Londoners that make it.

Join the Emergence: We are inviting musicians, dance and spoken word artists to get involved. As time goes on, we want to provide an opportunity for London Jazz to make connections, artistic, political or literary as well as purely musical wherever and with whoever it chooses to make them.

Curated by Lyle Barton and Rachel Jackson

For seven years, The Cockpit Theatre’s Jazz In The Round has been proud to be part of London jazz, presenting, recording and broadcasting the stream of evolving talent at their regular night and running stages at Love Supreme, Kings Place and The Roundhouse.
