Lucky Iris release their latest single called Speak Soon

Learn to put your boundaries in place as you become a better version of yourself with the track Speak Soon by the alt-pop duo you didn’t know you needed in your life…

Lucky Iris

Speak Soon (OUT 12th NOV) is the latest single released by the alt-pop duo Lucky Iris. The was released two months after the successful launch of the pair’s debut single Coffee Shop (released SEPT 10th). Coffee Shop was featured on BBC 6 Music Mixtape (Tom Robinson), BBC Radio Leeds: Introducing West Yorkshire (Emily Pilbeam) and multiple plays on Amazing Radio (both the UK and USA stations). But whereas Coffee Shop was a chilled dance-inspired track, Speak Soon is more refined, more up-beat and even more boppy number, which sees the pair flexing their diverse repertoire of alt-pop music.

Maeve & Jasper

The duo, made up of Maeve (vocalist) and Jasper (multi-instrumentalist), wrote the track with the PRS Hitmaker accredited songwriter and producer Ben Matravers (Easy Life, Josie Pronto). It was the first time any of the three musicians had been into a studio since lockdown, and within two hours of the session beginning, the track was next to finished. Once completed, Ben sent the piece to Lee Smith for mixing (Easy Life, Holly Humberstone), to make it into the track you hear today.

When asked to describe the track, Maeve replied: “Have you ever felt like someone you were close to doesn’t like the person you’ve become? Speak Soon is about that feeling. It encourages you to move on from the those who aren’t supportive of your growth, because you’re worth more than that! Maybe in the future, you’ll meet up, but you probably won’t… instead you’ll text them Speak Soon with no intention of speaking at all.”

Speak Soon is the second of a succession of tracks released with the help and support of Launchpad, through the non-profit Music:Leeds. The pair secured funding following the success of their self-released EP Turns Out We Should Have Stayed at Home in April 2020. The EP was released during the first lockdown and within a week they were BBC Introducing West Yorkshire Track of the Week (and later included in the shows: Best of 2020).

Since the release of Coffee Shop in September, Lucky Iris have had a busy couple of months. The pair performed at 12 separate gigs (including their first ever live performance) in the 8-week period. They supported acts such as Real Lies and The Lottery Winners, as well as catching the end of the festival season, featuring at Live at Leeds, Long Division, Barnsley Live and the 110 Above Festival Afterparty. The duo also completed a “Coffee Shop Tour” of their favourite Yorkshire Coffee Shops, as part of their promotional campaign in support their previous single release. However, Lucky Iris are not showing any signs of slowing down, instead, they’re only gaining momentum: with many upcoming live dates from Leeds to London, including a tour planned for their next release in the new year!

Speak Soon released digitally on 12th November.
